Technical Details

This vulnerability is caused by insufficient authorization checks on REST API endpoints that expose a sync code and accept file uploads. The plugin exposes endpoints that return a sync code and allow uploads; because those endpoints do not enforce proper authorization, an unauthenticated attacker can retrieve the sync code, upload files with path traversal in filenames, and place executable PHP files on the server. Successful exploitation results in remote code execution on the host running the WordPress site.

Code references include REST-related files in the plugin codebase (see api.php and expro-api.php in the plugin repository). The core issue is missing or inadequate authorization checks around the sync code retrieval and upload handling, combined with acceptance of arbitrary file content and path traversal-capable filenames.

In a typical small business WordPress setup this could allow an attacker to access site files and stored data, potentially exposing user information.
