Startup Weekend Binghamton Kick Off

Two great talks kick us off… now we’re ready for the pitches. Huge line!

 

The Pitches – 8:05pm

1) Nathan — Mobile app for student nightlife, calls it “university nightlife.”

2) Missed the name (sorry) — App for small retailers to compete with large retailers through data and metrics. Basically amazon suggest for brick and mortar stores.

3) JC Mackin — Sharing utility where you can share a link and all talk together about it on video after it’s shared.

4) Jerry O’Brien — Folio, a book reading experience where you dont have to turn the page.

5) Didn’t give name — App to show actual text under a person while they are talking under google glasses.. in real life.

6) Michael — Create a cleaner world to live in. Envior friendly business with unique solutions. Assess their waste etc and help them reduce it and be more efficient.

7) Didn’t give name — Multi-language form to help foreign students register for college, reduce costs and help more kids get registered.

8) Tyler — Merges the community of open source with the ideas of real world projects.

9) Valdish — Make a platform where professors can create courses from scratch vs canned courses and things they dont want/need.

10) Kaleib — Reduce the costs of diabetes device by using a smart phone instead. Each user will have a profile where they can see history and keep track of their readings.

11) Travis — Unique homegoods products, eco-friendly (upcycled, etc). Currently has access to all development and and manufacturing.

12) Sam — Corporate events, lighting, audio, events management, planning and events management.

13) Didn’t give name — startup lets you know if its a good time to call your friends to chat as opposed to trying over and over again.

14) Onad — Work through sound data to figure out what events and locations people should go to on a nightly basis.

15) Didn’t give name — “Imagine farmville for music industry” You grow music product, you create it, you build songs, you perform them. But incorporate it into the actual industry — “Tune Grow”

16) Chris — Can’t find olives in the grocery story, create a program that allows retailers to create an app where they can put in list of specials, tell them where products are, etc. “market map”

17) Steve — National Police Gazette, there is no interesting paper focused at 18-24 year olds. NPG is that publication, started in 1845, working with hollywood people on trying to get TV show, etc.

18) James — Website where people in any city can log in and see what is going on in each city — shows, events, concerts etc.

20) No name given — Local advertising on big platforms such as spotify. Online interface that helps local business, create, promote, track and measure audio advertising efforts.

21) Cathy — Rapid prototyping through 3D printing in plastic and metal. Plans on leasing machines that will be able to produce 3D models, “big market in binghamton.”

22) David — Watching TV, see item, but dont know where to find it. Website and mobile app that lets you buy any prop or item you see in any TV show, commercial, etc, etc. Clothing, furniture, gadget from Startrek etc can all be bought from mobile app and website.

23) Sam — Provisional patent on “Iphone Siri for non-smartphone users.” If you want to find something but dont have an iphone. “Personal assistant”

24) Brian — Power Corp bracelets to help disabled veterans and wounded warriors.

25) Henry — Loves news, news geek. But newspaper industry is dying, losing $25 to every $1 gained in digital. News app that will let people consume news via digital app and they can pay for it directly if they want to read it. “LeafPress”

 

Let the Voting Begin! — 8:37pm

The boards are starting to fill up, ideas are starting to narrow down, some have a ton of votes, others are struggling.

Pretty cool structure here, each participant gets three post-it notes and gets to put those as votes on three different ideas of their choosing. The ideas with the most votes get chosen!

Travis — Unique homegoods products, eco-friendly (upcycled, etc). Currently has access to all development and and manufacturing.

 

3) TuneGrow

Didn’t give name — “Imagine farmville for music industry” You grow music product, you create it, you build songs, you perform them. But incorporate it into the actual industry — “Tune Grow”

Everyone is in their teams and ready to go! The hotel is open until midnight and these guys look like they are just getting started on their ideas, such great energy in here.
