In alignment with our Ethos, the FreshySites team is always asking for more, pushing ourselves to expand our individual and collective knowledge base about web design, SEO, our WordPress platform and the other facets of our offerings, in order to improve our processes and better serve our clients.

We’ve recently fine-tuned our SEO processes for E-Commerce websites, in adherence with common best practices, which were too good not to share.

SEO Tips, Tricks & Best Practices

  • Utilize Distinct Title Tags for Product Pages – Using distinct and original title tags for product pages on E-Commerce websites is vital to SEO in online shops and can easily be done through varying the key phrases – not necessarily keywords – used in said title tags.
  • Permanently 301 Redirect Expired Product URLs – Permanently redirecting expired product URLs to live product pages, or a site’s main online shop page is essential to removing old/expired pages from a search engine’s index, replacing those previously indexed pages with newer, live product pages that can rank well on search engine results pages – or SERPs.
  • Add Schema Markups to Product Pages for Rich Snippets – Implementing schema markups on product pages adds rich snippets, such as reviews, events, software, etc., to product pages, as well as allows search engines to better understand the product information on the page and more easily display that information in SERPs. Doing this can lead to an increase in Click-Through-Rates (Number of Clicks/Number of Impressions) to an E-Commerce site’s product page/pages.
  • Optimize Category Pages By Utilizing Target Keywords – Optimizing product category pages on an E-Commerce site simply means incorporating specific product keywords into individual pages, posts and so forth. This, in addition to the clean way some platforms web pages are nested – like WordPress – gives product category pages the ability to prevent individual pages from competing in SERPs for that same keyword.

A major part of optimizing category pages is also optimizing individual pages, posts and so forth for their specific brands, models, products, etc. before linking them all to the general product category pages, which should be optimized for those general product keywords as well.

One Last Thing

Other SEO best practice to follow when optimizing product category pages on an E-Commerce site include incorporating your target keyword, keywords, or key phrases in: the image ALT and file name, H1 tag, page description, page title, as well as any/all SEO permalinks. And don’t forget to include words or phrases related to your keyword in each post as well.
